My new years beliefs and habits in Mistelbach
Januar 2nd, 2011
Because January 1 is the first day of the new year, we have drawn a connection between what we do on that day and our fate throughout the rest of the year.
So on New Year´s Day we eat lentil soup. This “lucky” dish will bring us enough money in the new year (because lentils supposedly look like coins). Also, we do not do any laundry on New Year’s Day, lest a member of the family be ‘ washed away’ (die) in the upcoming months. For more New Year´s beliefs click here.

Than there is the traditional New Year’s Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra takes place every year on January 1 at 11:00 AM in the Golden Hall of Vienna’s Musikverein. The concert is televised worldwide and offers a spectacle of classical music and dance. Generally, tickets for the New Year’s Concert of Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra are not offered on sale, so we follow it on television.

Before it gets dark we drive for a Winter Walk to Falkenstein. That is and was my traditional program for the first day of the new year since we live in Mistelbach!

HAPPY NEW YEAR and hope to see you in the wine district in 2011!
